Musings on Karaoke

Musing 1: I don't like it!

Musing 2: Whoever invented it should be forced to listen to what we have to hear at this dorm EVERY day!!!!!

Musing 3: There needs to be some limit on the volume that karaoke can be played in a residential neighborhood.

Let me explain, the people who live next door to the dorm have some sort of informal karaoke bar going on. Who knows if the people who live there just really, really love to sing or if people actually pay to go over there. Regardless, they usually have the music up unspeakably loud. And, sometimes the singing is sooooo bad. The girls said it is always like that...just about every day.

What is crazy is that the neighbors on the other side of the dorm sometimes complain that it is too loud when the girls are up late at night on the computer - the clicking of the keys is annoying! Apparently they are deaf to the madness that is coming from just the other side! (and the incessant barking of their own dogs in the middle of the night!). I think that just helps demonstrate how hard the girls had to work to be accepted and not ridiculed in this neighborhood. It is a poorer neighborhood, with a lot of immigrants, and they really looked down on the girls because they came from the countryside. They also didn't believe it was possible for a group of girls to live together without fighting all of the time. Over the past three years, though, it seems like some things have changed. They get a little more respect, and some of the parents tell their kids to be like the girls so that they can study and live in a place like this. That shows that some things are changing and that the dorm is having a greater impact than on just the girls who live here and directly benefit from the education.

Now, if just the karaoke would stop!!!
