A Few Short Thoughts

1. I know, I know, I still need to write the blog about Tuol Sleng. I just haven't had the time and definitely want to think about it when I do it.

2. I keep saying that I am going in town to meet someone, and it sounds like I know all of these people here. Really, it is just one person, and she is leaving at the end of the month. Apparently her cousin who is in her early 30s just moved here, so hopefully I can meet her. That is part of why I wanted to go to the photowalk this morning. Some other time.... I am just hoping that I can find someone else to do some things with because the girls can't really do a lot of things, and it doesn't seem right having them come when I am visiting shops or trying to buy things to take home.

3. No wonder I am hungry all the time!!! When we have fish with vegetables, it seems like a lot on the serving plate, but each girl gets maybe 1/3 of a fairly small fish. Or, for breakfast this morning, it was fried eggs. But, there were only 4 eggs to share with 12 people!! Yes. Did I mention that I am always hugry?

4. And, what is not fair is even though I feel like I am not eating that much, I don't think I am even losing any weight. What is up with that?! I think it probably is because I never walk anywhere. I often stay on the 3rd floor, and even when I leave the dorm I don't walk.

5. Which takes me to my next point. You would think in a city where few people have cars and that is fairly small, that you would be able to walk. You would be sooo wrong! First, there are sidewalks (sometimes), but they are covered up with people lounging around or setting up shops, so you cannot actually walk on them. That means you have to walk on the streets and be wary of all the motos dodging around. And, if you are in a touristy area, walking means that you are constantly hassled by moto and tuk tuk drivers who want to give you a ride. Granted, this is very nice when you do need a ride because you don't really have to look for one. However, when you are just trying to walk down the street, it can get pretty annoying.

Well, I guess that is all of my points for now. Since I am staying home from the photowalk and Central Market this morning to work on my dissertation, I should probably start working on it.
