This is from a list that I wrote out during my last week in Cambodia. I saw a section of a paper in Phnom Penh that had similar lists of people when they left (of course, they had been there longer than me), but I thought it would still be fun to put together and post.
Things I will miss about Cambodia:
- Eating rice and other delicious sauces with every meal.
- The delicious fried bananas on Mso Tse Tung!!!!
- Talking with the girls and learning new things.
- Trying new food with every meal. Most of them delicious!
- Buying cheap food at restaurants.
- Driving (well, being driven) around town on the motos. I can't believe this is actually something I will miss since I always swore I would never ride a motorcycle. They actually were a lot of fun and a great way to get around!
- Meeting interesting people from around the world.
- In a weird way, the almost constant karaoke in our neighborhood.
Things I will NOT miss about Cambodia:
- Rice. Yep, it is on this list, too :)
- Incessant dog barking at night. It is the strangest thing - they are silent during the day and then go bonkers after dark!!
- BAD and super loud karaoke in our neighborhood.
- The whiffs of trash and sewage that seemed to be pervasive at times, especially after it rained.
- Not knowing what people are saying almost all of the time!!
- Fearing every mosquito that comes near me.
There really isn't all that much that I will not miss although I am excited to be back in a place with air conditioning and significantly less humidity!
A few updates:
I seem to have escaped the Cambodian mosquitoes unscathed since I just finished my last malaria pill and seem to be malaria free! I also am having to prepare for Romania where, again, I will be surrounded by a language I really don't know. Yikes!!!!
